How to Choose Your Roof Cleaner - Remove Moss & Dirt

There are many cleaning products within our range, most of our products can be used on many different types of surface so cleaning a roof and cleaning a patio can, in many instances, be done by the same product. Here we are looking at a roof cleaner; therefore which products, from within our range, are best suited to cleaning different types of roof?

When selecting a product from our range you need to think about what you want the product to do, how you would like it to do it and what work you are prepared to do. All the products within our cleaning range will, obviously, clean however they all work in different ways and require different methods of application.

The most popular roof cleaner within our range is Baticlean CR. This can be used on almost all roof types including:

· Thatch Roof

· Flat Roof – built up felt, single ply membrane, mastic asphalt & conservatory roofs

· Tiled Roof

· Slate Roof

As the product is pH neutral, if used as directed, it will not harm any of these roof coverings so can be used safely by both amateur and professionals alike. What attracts many of our customers to Baticlean CR is the ease of use and application. Simply dilute and apply to a dry surface during dry and calm weather. There is no requirement to rinse the surface so simply apply and leave for nature to slowly wash the product from the area.

Another very popular cleaner is Batifast. This can be used on most roof surfaces but is best suited to tiled and slate. The difference with this product is that it requires rinsing from the roof surface normally between 30 - 60 minutes after application. This means that you need to not only apply the product but rinse which increases the amount of physical input and time you need to spend doing the job. Batifast is a fast acting cleaner and is not pH neutral which is why it must be rinsed as opposed to Baticlean CR which is pH neutral therefore can be left on the surface. The bonus with Batifast is that it can be used to clean heavy dirt and staining or to remove debris.

Once you have cleaned your roof then you can help to keep it clean in a couple of ways; firstly you can apply Baticlean CR every 12-18 months which will help to keep your roof clean and clear of debris. Secondly you can use Hydrosil BS which will seal the area. This not only reduces any possible water ingress but assists the roof to dry much quicker which discourages the growth of moss
