Product Description
Lawn Sand is a traditional treatment to control spring and summer moss in your lawn and other grassed areas. It can also be used as a tonic to give lawns a rich green colour. Suitable for both domestic and professional use, Lawn Sand is vital for maintaining a healthy, vibrant lawn, whatever the area. With its specific combination of ingredients and benefits, it brings a number of improvements to your grass:
- Weed and Moss Control
Lawn Sand contains iron sulphate, which is an effective moss killer and discourages the growth of broadleaf weeds. By reducing moss, it helps prevent the suffocation of grass and promotes better lawn health. The
iron in Lawn Sand burns moss, causing it to turn black and die, making it
easier to rake out.
- Encourages Grass Growth
Lawn Sand contains nitrogen, which is essential for grass growth. Nitrogen promotes lush, green foliage and helps the grass recover from damage caused by weeds and moss.
- Improves Soil Structure
The sand in Lawn Sand helps to improve soil drainage, particularly in areas with heavy or compacted soils. It allows water to pass through more easily, preventing waterlogging that can lead to root rot or poor grass health. This can be especially beneficial for lawns in areas with
clay-heavy soil. This improved structure and drainage will also help to stop future moss growth.
- Corrects Lawn Deficiencies
Lawn Sand contains nutrients like iron and magnesium, which are beneficial for correcting certain lawn deficiencies. Iron helps promote the
deep green colour of grass and can aid in boosting lawn vigour. Additionally, it can be used for treating lawns that have yellowing or pale patches due to nutrient deficiency.
- Suppresses Pests and Diseases
The presence of iron sulphate can effectively deter certain pests and reduce the likelihood of fungal diseases. By maintaining a healthy
lawn with Lawn Sand, you’re also less likely to encounter issues such as insect infestations or lawn diseases.
- Balances pH Levels
This is crucial, as soil that is too acidic or too alkaline can lead to poor grass growth. The sand helps neutralise acidity, creating a more favourable growing environment for your grass.
- Easy Application
Lawn Sand is easy to apply, spread evenly over the lawn with a spreader or by hand. It works as a surface treatment, making it effective for
spot treatment of moss and weeds without disturbing the lawn as much as some liquid or granular weed killers.
- Improves Lawn Appearance
The combined effects of moss control, enhanced drainage, and improved grass growth result in a more even, lush, and green lawn. Regular
applications of lawn sand help lawns look healthier, more vibrant, and better
maintained, enhancing the overall aesthetic of your garden.

FAQs
How is it best to apply this sand?
Apply at around 80 grams per square meter and try to avoid walking on the treated areas until it has rained or you have watered the area. If no rain falls within 48 hours of initial treatment then we recommend watering.
When should I apply the sand?
We recommend using in the best growing months so between March and September. It is best not apply in very hot or dry periods or if your grass is looking stressed. Regular application will ensure moss growth is stopped and will keep your grass in a healthy condition.
Are the granules safe for use around pets?
We advise that pets and children are kept off the surface until completely dissolved following watering/rainfall. If this makes things awkward the remember that you don't have to treat a whole area at the same time. Why not do half one week and the second half the following week?
